GUNNISON — The death of an inmate at the Central Utah Correctional Facility Sunday morning is being investigated as a homicide, but prison officials have provided few details.

Ted Davey was pronounced dead shortly after a medical evaluation, and his death is being investigated by the Utah State Bureau of Investigations, according to a prepared statement from Utah Department of Corrections communications director Kaitlin Felsted.

His age was not released, but court records indicate Ted Claude Davey's age as 62.

Davey had been in the jail since 2019 and was serving a sentence for four convictions of DUI, a third-degree felony, for four separate incidents in 2017 and 2019, the statement said.

Felsted said he was found at the prison's Henry Facility, but did not specify whether he was found in his cell or elsewhere nor what time he was found. The statement did not indicate how Davey died or why investigators believe it was a homicide. She did not say whether anyone witnessed the death, whether there are any suspects in the killing, whether there had been a fight or any other details.
