DRAPER — Police identified the man who was killed in a shooting early Thursday in Draper, as 33-year-old Remey Rowland of Salt Lake City.

The shooting happened outside the Heritage Apartments at 11715 S. State just after 1 a.m., according to Draper Police Lt. Pat Evans.

Rowland was deceased with a gunshot wound when officers were called to the scene on the report of shots fired.

Evans said it's too soon in the investigation to disclose what led up to the shooting, but did say Thursday afternoon that Rowland was not a resident of the apartment complex. Police are following leads and do not believe there's a threat to the public, he said. Officers also sent out K-9s to search for a suspect Thursday morning.

"With assistance from neighboring agencies, the Draper Police Department searched the area and were unable to locate a suspect. Detectives and crime scene investigators are speaking to witnesses and residents, gathering evidence and leads for follow-up while the state crime lab is processing evidence," Draper police said in a statement.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 801-840-4000.
