OGDEN — Police say the accidental shooting of a teenager in Ogden on Thursday has led an 18-year-old being charged with two felonies.

Zedekiah Mendel Pool, of Ogden, was charged Friday with possessing equipment for a clandestine laboratory, a second-degree felony, and possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.

Pool was arrested following a shooting Thursday that Ogden police say was accidental.

Police were called to 468 River Drive in Ogden on a report of a gunshot wound. When first responders arrived, they found that a teenage boy had been shot in the neck, and Pool was allegedly trying to help the teen, who was bleeding from the neck, according to charging documents.

The teen was rushed to a local hospital, and as of Friday the teen had suffered "serious and life-threatening injuries," the charges say.

Police believe that Pool was manipulating a handgun and moving the slide when the gun went off in the living room of the home, with the bullet hitting the teen in the neck. Officers searched the home and found a spent shell casing from a 9 mm handgun. Police also allege that Pool had consumed marijuana less than five hours before the shooting, which would make him an unlawful user of a firearm.

While searching the home, police found a psilocybin mushroom growing operation, including venting, tenting and other indicators of a mushroom growing operation, according to charging documents.

The document adds that "police are investigating whether additional charges regarding the shooting are or may be warranted."

Court records say Pool made his initial appearance in Ogden's 2nd District Court on Monday, and his next court appearance will be later this month. A judge ordered Pool to be held in jail without bail.
