SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health reported 1,552 new COVID-19 cases in the state from over the weekend.
Those include 628 new cases on Friday, 514 cases on Saturday and 409 cases on Sunday. The health department also reported three weekend deaths and 13,063 more vaccinations administered.
The rolling seven-day daily average for positive cases in the state is now at 571.
The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the "people over people" method is now 13.7%. The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the "test over test" method is now 9.5%.
There are now 280 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 121 in intensive care, state data shows. About 78% of all intensive care unit beds in Utah are now occupied, including 80% of all ICU beds at the state's 16 referral hospitals, according to health department data. At that ICU capacity, there is a major strain on Utah's healthcare system, according to health officials.
A total of 2,951,137 vaccines have been administered in the state, up from 2,938,074 Friday. A total of 1,627,565 Utahns, or about 50.8% of the total population, have now received at least a first vaccine dose, according to the health department. A total of 1,450,738 Utahns, or about 45.3% of the state's total population, are now fully vaccinated.
Among Utahns age 12 and older, who are currently eligible to receive the vaccines, about 62.8% have received at least a first dose, and 56% are fully vaccinated.
Of the 2,862,992 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 14.8% have tested positive for COVID-19.
The number of total tests conducted in Utah since the pandemic began is now at 5,219,627, up 17,265 since Friday. Of those, 10,591 were tests of people who hadn't previously been tested for COVID-19.
The three deaths reported Monday were:
- A Davis County man between the ages of 65 and 84 who was hospitalized when he died.
- A Salt Lake County man between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized when he died.
- A Weber County man between the ages of 25 and 44 who was hospitalized when he died.
Monday's totals give Utah 424,171 total confirmed cases, with 18,112 total hospitalizations and 2,416 total deaths since the disease first hit Utahns in March 2020.
