MAGNA — A woman is dead and two others are in serious condition after a three-car crash in Magna, authorities said.

Police were contacted about a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of state Route 201 and 8400 West about 12:50 a.m. Friday, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Brent Shelby said.

Two of the vehicles, a GMC pickup truck and a Toyota Camry, were traveling west and exiting to go south on 8400 West, Shelby said. The pickup sideswiped the Camry, and both vehicles went over the triangular area between the off-ramp and the freeway, known as the gore, and back onto SR-201, according to a highway patrol news release.

A third car, an Audi Q7, was moving north on 8400 West to go west on SR-201, Shelby said. When the pickup truck went back over the gore, the truck struck the Audi nearly head-on, according to the news release.

The driver of the GMC, a woman in her thirties, was ejected and died on scene, according to the highway patrol. The occupants of the Audi, a man and woman, were transported to a hospital with serious injuries, the highway patrol said. Authorities initially said the two suffered critical injuries, but later said they suffered serious injuries.

The occupants of the Camry were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene, according to the news release.

Troopers were investigating seatbelt use and impairment as possible factors for the death of the woman in the GMC.

Further information, including the identity of the woman killed in the crash, was not immediately given.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly said two cars were exiting onto I-84. It has been corrected to say they were exiting onto 8400 West.
