THE SWEET HIVE — I hate to admit it, but there is something incredibly cathartic about drinking a cold, refreshing soda.
The distinct sound when you pop the tab or turn the cap to release the built-up carbonation is somehow soothing. I know it's not good for us and our teeth are begging us to stop drinking it, but at the end of the day, there is a wonderful familiarity to opening a soda and taking a rejuvenating swig of the sweet stuff.
We humans know this pleasure — apparently, bees are catching on to the sweet nectar of fizzy drinks as well.
This video comes from Sao Paulo, Brazil, where a woman caught a couple of bees taking kindly to her Fanta. The bees work in tandem in the ultimate example of "hive mind" and manage to remove the bottle cap.
It's crazy to watch and realize that these insects are smarter than we give them credit. Or maybe you all do and I am just behind the times.
Usually, I'd say this is the beginning of some kind of bee uprising as they prepare to take back their honey and our soda at the same time, but I don't think that's the case. I just think these two bees saw a challenge with a sweet reward and went for it. I applaud that. That's the kind of concentration and drive I hope to have someday.
Maybe I do have that kind of initiative when it comes to tasty treats both in solid and liquid form. I should give myself more credit.
