SALT LAKE CITY — Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting on Saturday.
Police were called on reports of shots fired at a home in the Glendale neighborhood just before 2 a.m. and found a man with a gunshot wound. The man, later identified as Emilio Salazar, 28, was in "extremely critical condition," according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Bill Manzanares, and eventually died.
Homicide detectives interviewed multiple witnesses at the scene of the shooting at 1172 W. California Ave. Salt Lake City Police obtained photos of the suspect from a witness who was hesitant to identify the man to detectives because the house had "gang-related ties."
"It should be noted that the interview took over 4 hours before the witness, who was terrified, was able to say the name 'Baby Alex,'" according to the police statement.
Those interviews led to the arrest of Alex Mendoza Jr., 19, at his residence and he was taken into custody without incident. He is facing murder charges and three counts of felony discharge of a firearm shot in direction of a person.
