SALT LAKE CITY — A 20-year-old missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in Switzerland died Tuesday after falling on a hike, church officials said.

Sister Annabelle Nielsen, of Highland, Utah, was hiking with five other missionaries when she slipped and fell down a steep incline.

“We express our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones,” church spokesman Daniel Woodruff said in a statement. “We pray they will feel the peace and comfort of our loving Heavenly Father as they deal with this tragedy and honor her life.”

Nielsen began her assignment as a missionary in the Alpine German-speaking mission in July of 2019.
