Game of the Week: Kearns @ Riverton

4 picks, Henderson's pick-six helps Kearns defense cruise by Riverton for 5-0 start

Charles Henderson and Ke’ondre Polanco each had two interceptions, and the Cougars ate up 11 tackles for loss to coast to a 44-19 win over Riverton and remain undefeated in the KSL.com Game of the Week.

Why did we choose Kearns at Riverton?

If you like to see high scoring games, Kearns can do just that. The Cougars put up 84 points last week against an overwhelmed Taylorsville team and checks in at No. 9 in the KSL.com Top 20+1 rankings this week after a 4-0 start to the season.

The Cougars feature talent throughout its roster but have one of the top Division I recruits in the state in Jeffrey Bassa, a three-star athlete rated No. 7 overall in Utah who recently narrowed down his college choices to Oregon, Oklahoma State and Utah. Kearns is the favorite to come out of Region 2 in Class 6A, but Riverton may be the Cougars' toughest opponent left on the schedule.

Riverton (2-2) has split the season but with two losses have come against No. 5 Pleasant Grove and No. 18 Lehi. The Silverwolves have the talent to compete and give the Cougars a strong test. They're not a perfect team, but senior quarterback Jaxon Howard can make plays and Riverton's defense is allowing 17.25 points per game — including 3.0 ppg in wins over West Jordan and Granger.
