SALT LAKE CITY — Officers responded to a homicide Wednesday evening at Harrison Avenue and Main Street, where a 49-year-old man was found dead, Salt Lake City police said.

Police said the man was shot and killed about 5:30 p.m. He was identified Friday as Luis Melendez, police said in a tweet.

Detectives weren't sure what led up to the shooting and were looking for leads in the case Wednesday night; they believe it was an isolated incident.

"We feel pretty confident with this being out in the street, in daylight, that we'll be able to figure out who was involved," Salt Lake City Police det. Greg Wilking said.

Salt Lake police detective Michael Ruff said Friday that no arrests have yet been made in the case.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.
