Pole Canyon Fire mapped at 488 acres, 0% contained

The Pole Canyon Fire, which started in Utah County on Wednesday, was officially mapped at 488 acres and had been 0% contained on Wednesday night. Fire resources were slated to remain in the area overnight, fire officials said.

Mountain Home Fire in Weber County 80% contained

The Mountain Home Fire, which began in Weber County on Tuesday, had reached 80% containment by Wednesday evening.Two hand crews, one squad, one helicopter and one fire engine were ordered to stay on the blaze while all other resources were released to home units or other fires.Fire officials asked the public to avoid the Coldwater Trailhead and trail for firefighter safety.

Allen Fire burning near Colorado-Utah border 40 acres, 0%

The lightning-caused Allen Fire, which burned near the Utah-Colorado border in Daggett County, was estimated at 40 acres on Wednesday evening and was 0% contained. On Tuesday, the fire was estimated to be larger — around 75-100 acres.

Duchesne County’s Abbott Fire 90% contained

The Abbott Fire, which started Monday in Duchesne County, was 90% contained as of Wednesday evening, fire officials confirmed.Firefighters were working to put out hot spots along the perimeter as they worked toward full containment of the 52-acre fire.

White Hills residents working to protect homes against 300-acre Pole Canyon Fire in Utah County

KSL TV's Matt Rascon reported White Hills residents are out in the field with weed whackers to clear an area to protect homes from where the Pole Canyon Fire would enter if it were to come down the mountain.The neighborhood, under an evacuation advisory, consists of about 125 homes south of Cedar Fort and Eagle Mountain.Evacuations were not mandatory.The field separating the mountain from the residential area consists of mainly dry grass.Unified Fire officials confirmed the human-caused fire had burned an estimated 300 acres by 6 p.m.The fire was started by heavy equipment about 2 p.m., according to Utah Fire Info.— Jen Riess, KSL.com

New fire at the base of Kennecott Bingham Canyon Mine in Herriman

Fire officials are reporting a new fire at the base of the Rio Tinto Kennecott Bingham Canyon Mine in Herriman. There were two fires near this location, according to Unified Fire Authority.The first fire, near 11800 S. Bacchus Highway has been put out.UFA has seven fire apparatus on scene responding to the second fire at approximately 12800 S. Bacchus Highway. Fire officials have estimated the fire at 5-7 acres as of 4:30 p.m.No structures are threatened at this time. — Jen Riess, KSL.com

Pole Canyon Fire estimated at 35 acres, White Hills neighborhood now under evacuation advisory

Unified Fire officials have estimated the Pole Canyon Fire has burned about 35 acres as of 3 p.m.Officials say there are more than 100 firefighters on scene from multiple state and local resources.While Eagle Mountain City advised White Hills neighborhood residents to evacuate, fire officials say it is not mandatory at this time."Residents should be aware and alert," city officials tweeted.— Jen Riess, KSL.com

New fire near Cedar Fort

Eagle Mountain City tweeted about a brush fire on the north side of Wride Highway and south/west of Eagle Mountain Boulevard in Utah County just after 2 p.m. Fire officials are calling this the Pole Canyon Fire and say it is growing rapidly.Two Heavy Air Tankers, four SEATS, a helicopter and smoke jumpers are responding, state and federal fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info.No structures are threatened at this time. Mountain Home Fire in Weber County holds at 78 acres, 50% containment

The Mountain Home Fire in Weber County remains at 78 acres and 50% containment as of Wednesday morning, officials said.People are asked not to use the Cold Water Canyon trailhead in North Ogden as crews fight the blaze. About 80 firefighters and two helicopters are fighting the fire as of Wednesday morning.
