SALT LAKE CITY — A 32-year-old man from outside Utah was arrested in Salt Lake City Saturday after intentionally starting fires, stealing an off-road vehicle and threatening campers with a gun, police say.
Multiple agencies are collaborating in the investigation, according to Morgan County sheriff's deputy Derek Chalmers. The man was already running from authorities, Chalmers said, when he managed to get inside East Canyon Resort in Morgan.
Chalmers said the man then stole a utility terrain vehicle. "When that attempt failed, due to him wrecking it, he started a fire," he said. Chalmers said he's unsure how the man started the fire, but multiple eyewitnesses confirm that he did.
Chalmers said the man used threats and fired a gun into the air "to get campers to move out of his way and continue his fleeing."
No one was injured, he said.
Eventually, the man was caught in Salt Lake City and taken into custody without incident.
The man's name was not released Sunday.
