SALT LAKE CITY — Police on Monday identified a man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning.

Salt Lake City police said 22-year-old Bernardo Palacios-Carbajal died from injuries suffered in the shooting, which occurred near 900 South and 300 West about 2 a.m. Saturday. Palacios-Carbajal's last reported address was in Salt Lake City, according to government records.

No other details of the incident were provided Monday. Salt Lake City police said body camera footage worn by officers the day of the incident is expected to be released either this week or next week.

The shooting happened after officers responded to a report of someone making threats with a gun, Salt Lake Police Sgt. Keith Horrocks said on Saturday. Police made contact with a man, now identified as Palacios-Carbajal, and he fled the scene. Officers confronted the man a short distance later and shots were fired.

No update was provided Monday about a second who person may have been involved. Horrocks said Saturday that police didn't believe there was a threat to the public.

The Unified Police Department is handling the investigation into the shooting, per officer-involved critical incident protocol.
