SALT LAKE CITY — As many Utahns celebrated Easter remotely on Sunday, COVID-19 continued its slow and steady spread.

According to the Utah Department of Health, 97 more Utahns have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since Saturday.

No new deaths were reported Sunday, but five more Utahns were hospitalized with the disease. The small 4.4% growth in cases is an encouraging sign, but health officials have cautioned Utahns not to let up on the social distancing measures they say have worked to slow the spread.

During Friday's press conference, which the health department has been holding jointly with Utah government officials on weekdays, state epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn reiterated that anyone experiencing any symptom of COVID-19 — cough, fever or shortness of breath — should be tested now that the state has expanded testing capacity.

Since the pandemic began, 2,303 Utahns have tested positive for COVID-19, including those who've since died or, more commonly, recovered.

Salt Lake County reported 55 of the new COVID-19 cases, and Utah County had 18. That brings Salt Lake County up to 1,126 total cases, while Utah County has 313. Summit County reports 304 cases, and Davis County is just below the 200 mark at 199.

At least 44,234 Utahns have now been tested for COVID-19, up 1,688 tests from yesterday.
