WEST VALLEY CITY — One man was taken into custody with K-9 assistance early Saturday morning after allegedly threatening his Uber driver and refusing to exit the vehicle when police arrived.
Dyson Gorman, 25, was treated at the hospital for leg injuries related to the K-9 extraction and then booked into jail.
About 1:30 a.m., a man called for an Uber ride home from Salt Lake City and was taken to the Dean Drive area in West Valley City, according to West Valley Police Lt. Amy Maurer.
But the man was unable to give the driver a specific address, Maurer said. The driver drove the man around the neighborhood trying to find his home.
Maurer said the man then threatened the driver and demanded they get out of the car.
“No weapons were seen,” she said, “but the driver made the right decision and left the car.”
The driver called police, who located the vehicle parked in the street. Maurer said the man failed to comply with officers’ commands, and it took police about 20 minutes to take him into custody.
Police first tried using pepper balls to get the man out of the car, Maurer said, but the car’s windows were up. Eventually, Maurer said, the man opened his door voluntarily but still didn’t comply with police commands. A police K-9 named Tank then extracted the man from the car.
Maurer said the man appeared confused and had difficulty recalling where he lives. She said officers suspect intoxication was a factor in the incident.
