SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah man wanted in connection with the deaths of a New Hampshire couple found buried on a south Texas beach has been arrested.
According to station KRIS 6 in Corpus Christi, members of the family of James and Michelle Butler confirmed the arrest of Adam Curtis Williams in the Mexican state of Jalisco, about 1,000 miles from the Texas border.
Additional information about his arrest was not immediately available.
The arrest comes a day after the sheriff’s office in Kleberg County, Texas, issued a warrant for Williams, 33, of Logan for theft. Investigators believe Williams stole a car that belonged to James Butler, 48, and Michelle Butler, 46. Their bodies were found last week in a shallow grave on Padre Island, near Corpus Christi.
Sometime between Oct. 20 and 21, Williams and a woman drove the Butlers’ vehicle into Mexico, according to Texas authorities. A still image of them crossing the border was released by the Kleberg County Sheriff’s Office. The bodies of the Butlers were found Oct. 27.

Authorities say an arrest warrant has been issued for a man suspected of stealing a car that belonged to a New Hampshire couple found buried at a South Texas beach.Williams also has outstanding warrants in Utah and was recently released from federal prison.
In September he was charged in Cache County’s 1st District Court with object rape and forcible sodomy, first-degree felonies, and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. A warrant was issued for his arrest in that case.
In August, Williams was charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; assault by a prisoner and aggravated assault, third-degree felonies; and three other misdemeanors. In that case, Williams was arrested in a domestic violence-related incident and had to be stunned by a Taser by police, according to a Cache County police affidavit.
Both of those cases were filed while Williams was on federal probation.
In 2010, Williams was convicted on federal firearms and drug charges and served 100 months in federal prison, according to court records. He was placed on 60 months of supervised release in December.
While incarcerated, he was convicted of possessing contraband in federal prison and given an additional six months, according to court records.
