LITTLEFIELD, Ariz. (AP) — A lengthy detour of wide-load traffic on Interstate 15 for bridge resurfacing in northwestern Arizona’s Virgin River Gorge will begin May 29 and last a year.
The Arizona Department of Transportation says vehicles and loads wider than 10 feet traveling between Las Vegas and Cedar City, Utah, would use a 224-mile detour in southeastern Nevada and southwestern Utah.
The detour route includes sections of U.S. 93, Nevada State Route 319 and Utah State Route 56 and is 67 miles longer than the I-15 route.
The $6.4 million bridge project also will affect normal-width traffic because of delays from narrowing a 3-mile stretch of I-15 to only one lane in each direction to provide work space on the bridges.
