PARK CITY — Over 100 feature films from 33 countries will be screened January for the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, Sundance Institute officials announced Wednesday.

The festival runs from January 24 to February 3 in Park City, Salt Lake City and Sundance Mountain Resort.

Festival judges selected 112 feature-length films from a record-high 14,259 submissions, Sundance officials said.

“This year’s festival is full of storytellers who offer challenges, questions and entertainment,” actor and Sundance Institute Founder Robert Redford said in a news release. “In telling their stories, they make difficult decisions in the pursuit of truth and art; culture reaps the reward.”

Forty-five of the films selected for the 2019 competition are from first-time filmmakers, according to Sundance. Forty-five of the films announced Wednesday were made by women and 40 were made by one or more persons of color, Sundance officials said.

Last year’s festival drew nearly 125,000 attendees and generated about $192 million in economic activity for Utah, the Sundance Institute said.

Tickets for most individual screenings during the festival cost $25, and will be for sale to the public starting Jan. 22 with a limit of four tickets per person, per screening. Ticket presales for Utah locals open up on Jan. 17. Tickets for kids screenings will cost $10.

During the festival, eWaitlist tickets for last-minute tickets to screenings are available in limited numbers. Those tickets cost $20, or $10 for kids screenings, and are cash only.

Various festival passes and ticket packages are available now. Those range in price from $75 for a short film package to $2,000 and beyond for a theater pass.

The festival lineup features its fair share of peculiar films and eccentric stories.
