SALT LAKE CITY — One person has died after an early-morning shooting near the Utah State Capitol, police said.
The shooting took place about 12:38 a.m. near 644 N. Darwin St., according to Salt Lake police Lt. Yvette Zayas.
The male victim later died at a hospital in Bountiful, Zayas said. Salt Lake police got a call from Bountiful reporting the victim had died about 1:16 a.m., she added. The identity of the victim was not released.
Police were able to find the scene at Darwin Street after conducting interviews, Zayas said. Officers later found handgun casings in the area, she added.
Other details about the shooting were not immediately available. It was not clear how the victim ended up at the Bountiful hospital.
Police were still investigating what led to the shooting, Zayas said. She added she did not know if it was gang-related.
