PROVO — At the end of the final week of spring football, BYU’s receiver corps received an upgrade.

Dylan Collie, the younger brother of former BYU record-setting star receiver Austin Collie and Hawaii’s leading receiver, announced his intentions to transfer to BYU Friday night via Twitter.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound younger Collie will have one year of immediate eligibility as a graduate transfer.

“Very few times in life do you get a second chance,” Collie said via Twitter. “I can’t wait to be back at Brigham to take advantage of what the coaches are giving me the opportunity to do.”

Collie, a communications major, redshirted at BYU in 2012 prior to serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Richmond, Virginia (with former BYU defensive standout Morgan Unga). The son of former BYU receiver Scott Collie also has an older brother, Zac, who played football at BYU and a sister, Taylore, who played golf at Utah Valley. But when Dylan returned from his mission to a new coaching staff prior to the 2015 season, he elected for a transfer to the islands.

As a junior in 2017, Collie averaged 11.4 yards per catch for 636 yards and four touchdowns while leading the Warriors to a 3-9 record that ended in a season-ending home loss to BYU on Nov. 25 — two days before the Cougars relieved Ty Detmer as offensive coordinator.

“As much as I loved BYU and the opportunity I had, I felt (during his mission) that I could do things elsewhere,” Collie told KSL Sports in November. “I knew Hawaii was going to be a place where the culture was the closest thing to BYU, with its outlook on family, the values and foundation of the church here.”

Since his hire, new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes and wide receivers coach Fesi Sitake have recruited Collie as a graduate transfer, traveling to his home in the islands and inviting the ex-Cougar and his wife, Savannah, to campus in Provo in February.

Collie also had interest from Vanderbilt and Wake Forest, he said via social media.
