SALT LAKE CITY — A man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in a Salt Lake motel has been charged.

Omar Eli Bautista, 22, of South Jordan, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with two counts of rape, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony; and child endangerment, a third-degree felony.

On Feb. 12, the girl met Bautista in a park and the two exchanged phone numbers, according to charging documents. The girl told Bautista she was a freshman in high school, the charges state.

On Feb. 14, the two agreed to meet. Once the girl got into Bautista's car, they smoked marijuana together, according to the charges. The girl told investigators she was "very impaired" the rest of the time she was with Bautista.

He took her to a motel where he raped the girl and strangled her, "causing her to go in and out of focus and causing her vision to start to go black," according to court documents.

Bail was set at $250,000.
