SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Transit Authority board of trustees Wednesday unanimously approved the appointment of Jerry Benson as the agency's top executive.
He had served as interim president and CEO since the retirement of Michael Allegra last autumn.
A 32-year veteran of the agency, Benson served as vice president of operations before becoming interim chief. The bulk of his experience has been in operations, as well as human resources, labor relations and personnel. He was also a leader in implementing numerous operational efficiency programs to improve reliability of the UTA rail and bus system.
Benson earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication, a master’s degree in human resource management and a doctorate in organizational communication — each at the University of Utah, where he also serves as an adjunct professor.
Benson will receive a yearly base salary of $274,000 in his new position.
