SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert, first lady Jeanette Herbert and a handful of Utah's elected officials are among the state's delegates to the Republican National Convention this summer who could decide the party's presidential nominee.
U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, U.S. Reps. Mia Love and Rob Bishop were also among the 37 delegates elected for the job over the weekend at the state Republican Party's nominating convention in Salt Lake City.
Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, state Senate President Wayne Niederhauser and state Sen. Mark Madsen were selected as well.
The 37 delegates and three additional state GOP officials will cast votes for Utah at the July convention in Ohio.
All 40 Utah delegates must vote for Ted Cruz during the first round of balloting but they're free to vote their choice in any additional rounds of balloting.
