SALT LAKE CITY — Republicans who plan to cast online ballots in next week's presidential caucus have until midnight Thursday to register with the party.

The original registration deadline was Tuesday, but the Utah Republican Party extended it by two days "because of the overwhelming public interest" in the presidential caucus, state GOP chairman James Evans said in a statement Wednesday.

Registered voters will be able to cast a paper ballot or change their party affiliation to Republican at the caucus Tuesday if they miss the deadline, but they will not be able to access online voting.

Utah Democrats also will hold caucuses Tuesday.

Voters registered as unaffiliated, Green Party, Independent or Republican can vote in the Democratic caucus, according to the state party website.

The Republican Party is using online voting, as well as the traditional in-person paper ballots.

Democratic voters will have to attend their caucus meetings to vote.

Eligible voters must be 18 by the November general election to take part in the caucuses.

Voters can check vote.utah.gov to find their party's neighborhood caucus. Caucus locations are not the same as polling places.
