SALT LAKE CITY — A day full of mischievous leprechauns and shamrocks, St. Patrick’s Day can provide a fun excuse to get out of the house and celebrate.

While St. Patrick’s Day was originally created to honor St. Patrick back in 1631, it has since evolved to include parades and costumes. Feasting, however, has always been an integral party of the celebration.

Below are four restaurants where you can eat Irish food while proudly wearing your green. Share your favorite spots for celebrating St. Patrick's Day in our comment section.

Flanagan’s Irish Pub and Restaurant

This Irish pub boasts traditional favorites like corned beef and cabbage, bangers n’ mash, and Irish beef stew. It created a special menu just for the holiday and even has a countdown to St. Patrick’s day on its website.

Thursday’s festivities will include a day filled with live music, a costume contest, prizes and green beer.

MacCool’s Public House

St. Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest days of the year for McCool’s, a local restaurant chain that gets its name from the warrior Finn MacCool of Irish mythology. The restaurant's regular menu features corned beef and cabbage, both classic and buffalo shepherd’s pie, and corned beef au gratin pie.

For the holiday, a band will play during the evening hours at the Ogden location.

O’Crowley Irish Tacos

Irish tacos may not be traditional fare but they certainly are tasty. Touted as “A Wee Taste O’ Heaven,” O’Crowley’s Irish tacos were created by Paul Crowley for his family about 50 years ago. The grandfather of 42 recently went into business with two of his grandchildren, launching a restaurant and food cart.

On Thursday, the Lindon storefront will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Party complete with live Irish music from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Customers can receive a free Irish taco with any purchase throughout the day and balloons will be given out to children from 4-8 p.m. There will also be raffles and a dance performance.
