SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials are investigating reports that someone aimed a laser pointer at a SkyWest airliner flying into Salt Lake City from Los Angeles.

An airport spokeswoman says SkyWest Airlines Flight 6470 landed safely at Salt Lake City International Airport on Wednesday night after the pilot reported the laser incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the aircraft reported being illuminated by a green laser about five miles southeast of Salt Lake City.

An airline spokesman says there were no injuries but pilots are encouraged to report such incidents.

An FAA spokesman says there were two other reported laser incidents Tuesday night over Provo, Utah.

Pointing a laser at an airliner is a federal offense because it could injure a pilot or make it difficult for them to see while flying.
