SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Supporters of a Mormon podcaster facing excommunication from the faith are planning to hold a vigil outside a disciplinary hearing scheduled for Sunday.
John Dehlin said in a statement Tuesday that his supporters plan to gather at the North Logan Stake Center at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
The 6 p.m. church disciplinary council could result in Dehlin being kicked out of the faith.
Dehlin says it isn't clear whether the council will reach a verdict Sunday.
Dehlin runs the podcast Mormon Stories and a website under the same name that provides a forum for church members questioning their faith.
Dehlin says he's been told that the website and his support for same-sex marriage are the reasons he's being accused of apostasy.
Church officials have declined to comment on his case.
