AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Swag given to attendees of the South By Southwest festival is setting off airport security alarms and causing reported delays for people leaving Austin, Texas.
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport spokesman Jason Zielinski said Wednesday that a particular type of ink on some item made it difficult to scan baggage, forcing officials to individually check bags.
Zielinski didn't know the exact item. He had heard problems being blamed on stickers, a free magazine "or any combination of things."
The Transportation Security Administration hasn't returned messages seeking further explanation.
Zielinski said it wasn't clear how many flights were affected. Travelers used Twitter to blame festival magazines, stickers or brochures for extra baggage screenings that delayed their flights.
South by Southwest's interactive portion ended Tuesday. Its film and music festivals remain in full swing.
