METUNG, Australia — The photo of a man "fighting" his way out of the belly of a shark is garnering worldwide attention.

A fisherman (who has asked to remain unidentified) caught a shark off the coast of Australia, according to the Daily Mail. As a photo prank, the man killed and gutted the shark, and then climbed inside and pretended to fight for his life.

The shocking, but staged picture, shows the fisherman's tatooed arm reaching out of the shark's gills and stabbing it in the head with a knife.

The photo is displayed at the Metung Hotel in the Gippsland region of Victoria and spurs questions from many visitors to the pub.

Local radio host, John Burns, was given a copy of the photo and he calls the fisherman "The Shark Slayer" and he declared the picture the "Photo of the year."

"An American couple have turned up at the Metung Hotel to see this photo (on the wall) and their immediate response from the wife was 'Did he survive?,' " Burns said on Melbourne's 3AW.

The fisherman happened to be standing behind the couple at the time.

Although the scenario portrayed in the photo isn't completely accurate, it's said that a picture is worth 1,000 words and the saying has never been more accurate than with this photo.
