FRANKLIN, N.J. — Two teens came to a cashier’s rescue when a customer caused a scene at a New Jersey Wendy’s.

About 20 minutes prior to the incident, the power went out and the fast-food restaurant’s kitchen was backed up. After the power was back and the kitchen was up and running, a woman went to the counter to give the cashier her order.

Katie Light, 18, was at the Wendy’s and saw the encounter unfold. She said the customer yelled at the cashier and said, “If you weren’t ready to take my order, you shouldn’t have called me up,” according to Yahoo.

Light and her friend Kailee Whiting were standing behind the angry customer and decided to step in to defend the cashier. Having worked in retail herself, Whiting tried to explain to the customer that the cashier was doing her best given the circumstances at the restaurant, according to Light.

The customer then shoved Whiting and told her to “shut up and stop talking.”

"We were very shocked that an older woman would even be so immature," Light said in an interview with Yahoo.

After Whiting and Light stood up to the customer, the cashier decided to give her thanks by throwing in free Frosties and chicken nuggets. First she sent out free chicken nuggets, though the pair of teens didn’t order any. After the chicken nuggets came the Frosties along with a note that read “You guys are awesome (hope you like vanilla).”

Whiting posted the photo of the free Frosties and note scribbled on tray paper to Reddit, where the photo went viral. Other users recounted their stories of fast-food experiences.

"I thought it was really sweet of the cashier,” Whiting's said. “It was nice to know that she was happy that we stood up for her. Karma gave us something back."

The perturbed customer reportedly called the restaurant’s manager and said the cashier gave away two free Frosties, but the manager didn’t care.
