SALT LAKE CITY — A time lapse video posted on YouTube shows the steeple being placed atop the Ogden temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The temple closed in April 2011 for major renovation.

LDSChurchTemples.com, a website not affiliated with the church, said the spire stood for months on a cement staging pad, and was recently covered in granite and gold-leaf detailing.

The new temple design dramatically changes the exterior of the building — with a new shape, new stone and new art glass. The interior is changing, as well, with new electrical, plumbing and heating systems.

The Ogden Utah Temple was dedicated in January of 1972. Church leaders said it was one of the busiest in the world, with 262,000 members attending from Northern Utah and Wyoming.
