DRAPER — Canyons School District celebrated an historic milestone in the construction of their newest high school.

Wednesday, lowered a massive dome onto the roof of the new Corner Canyon High School, the first high school built in Draper and the first built by the new district, according to Dr. David Doty, Canyons School District superintendent.

"I love the dome. I think it's a nice tie-in with the history of Draper and some of the historic elements of the community here," Doty said. "...Public education has a long history here in Draper. One of the first public schools in all of Utah, the Park School, was right here in this community, so this dome is a nice tie-in to that old legacy."

The dome is significant in the community because it represents the historic "Round House" in Draper. The Round House was used as a community gathering space by the cities earliest settlers.

The school is set to open in Fall of 2013.
