WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Most have heard of giving someone the shirt off one's back, but a Canadian bus driver took it one step further this week by giving a homeless man the shoes off the driver's feet.

Kris Doubledee was driving a bus through downtown Winnipeg on Tuesday when he noticed a homeless man on the side of the road.

CBC News.

Doubledee told CTV News he had seen the man with no shoes the day before his act of kindness.

"I asked the Lord: Just ease his pain, because he has no shoes, right?" Doubledee said. And the next day, the man's pain was eased by Doubledee himself, who could not drive past the same man twice.

Campbell said she and the other passengers were shocked when Doubledee took off his shoes and handed them to the man. When asked by another passenger why he would do such a thing, Doubledee reportedly said, "I couldn't stand seeing someone walking barefoot in this temperature like this."

Doubledee was originally shy about the attention he was receiving from the media, but said he hopes people will learn from the story notice those around them who may be in need, and act. And for the passengers on the bus, at least, it was a lesson they will not forget.

"You always hear, 'I'll give you the shirt off my back.' This man took his shoes off, gave them to a man that needed them, got back on the bus and continued to drive the bus," Cambell said. "It's unbelievable. It's amazing."
