Sandra Yi ReportingA Salt Lake City man is in trouble with the law after picking up a 13-year old girl and having sex with her. The man also faces kidnapping charges.
Police say the two met in Salt Lake, but the man drove the girl to a Motel 6 in Woods Cross. It happened last September, but the girl's mother found out about it and called police.
Police say 30-year old Luis Gustavo met the girl on a Salt Lake City street corner. She told him she needed a place to stay.
Officer Ekolu Delos Santos, Woods Cross Police Dept.: "She consensually went in the car and it wasn't anything forced."
Police say Gustavo took the girl to the motel in Woods Cross. The teen told investigators they had sex.
Ekolu Delos Santos: "In the morning, when they got up, she wanted him to take her to a bus stop to go to school, and at this time, he refused to take her to the bus stop."
Instead, Gustavo drove her to a Salt Lake City hotel where he works.
Ekolu Delos Santos: "She found a way to get out of the car, but subsequently took a credit card of his that she used somewhere in Salt Lake."
Police say the credit card information confirms the teens' story.
Ekolu Delos Santos: "The account number and name on the credit card was found to be used at the Woods Cross motel."
The girl also gave investigators a description of the suspect's car. He was arrested yesterday. Police aren't ruling out the possibility of more victims.
Ekolu Delos Santos: "We haven't heard of any yet, but it's still an ongoing investigation."
Luis Gustavo is in the Davis County Jail, charged with rape of a child and child kidnapping.
