(KSL News) A man is shot in Salt Lake City overnight, apparently the victim of gang violence.

Police tell us the victim was at his apartment complex at 800 North 850 West partying all day at a barbecue. Some other people showed up, and the man was shot.

Police say it appears the shooting was gang related, but they don't have a lot to go on right now.

Lt. Craig Gleason of the Salt Lake City Police Department said, "We have multiple witnesses giving us multiple different statements. But we're sorting through, attempting to find out what happened here."

Some friends took the man to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is expected to be OK.
