ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- The conditions of two Utah teens struck by lightning outside their high school have been upgraded from critical to serious at a Nevada hospital.
The Spectrum of St. George reports that 17-year-old Alexander Lambson and 16-year-old Christopher Dane Zdunich have been walking and talking at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
They were leaving Snow Canyon High School in Santa Clara, Utah, near St. George when they were struck Tuesday. Their clothes were singed from the bolt.
"Things are looking amazingly well," Principal Warren Brooks told The Spectrum. "We're just so excited that they're doing so well. We're overwhelmed with joy."
School officials attribute the boys' rapid recovery to a quick response by faculty after the strike. They said the boys were revived by CPR after their hearts stopped beating.
"Those kids deserve all the credit because they held on, and it's a miracle they held on," said school officer Travis Brown, who was among the first responders.
Classmates watched in horror as the boys slumped to the ground under the mostly clear sky.
Zdunich, a junior, and Lambson, a senior, are best friends who met on the school debate team. The boys also are on the cross country team together.
