WEST VALLEY CITY -- A police standoff with an armed West Valley City man has ended. Police say the man surrendered just after 6 p.m. Friday.

Officers say they were called to a home near 4000 South and 5400 West around 2 p.m. for an unknown problem. Apparently the family who lives there had gotten into an argument and police say a man pulled a weapon.

When police arrived, they were able to get everyone in the home out to safety except for the armed man. Eventually, they were able to convince the man to come out and he was taken into custody.

Police say about six homes were evacuated during the standoff.
