RIVERTON -- The widow of a World War II veteran says the flag that draped her husband's casket was stolen from her Pleasant Grove apartment sometime last week. Friday she received a new memento to remember him by.

"I feel like it is papa's flag. They've honored this flag, and I'm going to honor it in his memory," Carolyn Newman said.

Caroline now holds the new flag in honor of her husband, Pete Newman. The flag was presented to her in a special ceremony at the Utah Veteran's Cemetery in Riverton.

"I know this can't replace their original ceremony, but I think it's the least we can do for that family," said retired Col. Craig Morgan, director of the Utah Veterans Cemetery.

The Pleasant Grove Police Department is still investigating the theft of the original flag. Caroline says she hopes the thief will one day return it to her.
