NBA playoffs begin...Cubs' Bryant tries again...US, Italy tied in Fed Cup

TORONTO (AP) — The Raptors host Washington to tip off the NBA postseason this afternoon. Toronto won all three games between the two this season and of the first 103 minutes the two teams played, Toronto only trailed for 23 seconds.

CHICAGO (AP) — After a rough debut at the plate, Cubs phenom Kris Bryant tries again for his first major league hit this afternoon when the series with the Padres continues at Wrigley Field. Bryant went 0-for-4 in his first major league game yesterday, striking out his first three times at the plate.

ATLANTA (AP) — Tommy Armour III birdied his last two holes to take the lead at 5-under 67 in the rain-delayed first round of the Champions Tour's Greater Gwinnett Championship. The round was suspended because of rain yesterday and is being followed by the second round today. Armour is looking for his first win on the 50-and-over tour.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Troy Merrit takes a four-shot lead into today's third round of the RBC Heritage as he zeros in on what would be his first PGA Tour win. Merritt's course-record 10-under 61 yesterday vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard. Defending champ Matt Kuchar is in second, with Master champ Jordan Spieth (SPEETH) six shots off the pace.

BRINDISI, Italy (AP) — Top-ranked Serena Williams overcame a stiff challenge for a 7-6, 6-2 win over Italy's Camila Giorgi in the opening match of the Fed Cup World Group playoff. Italy's Sara Errani then evened the best-of-five series with the United States by routing 57th-ranked Lauren Davis 6-1, 6-2.
