BALTIMORE (AP) — The weather is good in Baltimore for today's 139th running of the Preakness. A fast track is expected for the start of the race early this evening which has California Chrome, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, posted as the favorite.

MONTREAL (AP) — The New York Rangers have won the opening game of the NHL's Eastern Conference final, stopping the Canadiens in Montreal 7-2. Game 2 will take place once again in Montreal Monday night.

PHOENIX (AP) — Tony La Russa is getting back into baseball. The Hall of Fame electee has been hired by the Diamondbacks as their chief baseball officer. In short, that means he'll be running the show with general manager Kevin Tower and manager Kirk Gibson answering to him. He in turn answers to the club owner.

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — NASCAR's annual Sprint Cup All-Star race is tonight in Concord, New Hampshire. Jimmie Johnson is the two-time defending champion.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have signed their third-round draft pick. The player in question is linebacker Preston Brown, who was drafted with the 73rd pick out of Louisville. With the Cardinals he was a three-year starter.
