HERRIMAN — A viral moment on a northern Utah lacrosse field is turning into a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 17-year-old Brady Famuliner.

On Thursday, the Utah Archers signed the West Field High School student to an honorary one-day contract ahead of the Premier Lacrosse League's opening weekend in Utah. Brady, who has Down syndrome, will also serve as an honorary captain during Saturday's game against the Denver Outlaws.

Brady captured attention last month after scoring a ceremonial goal before a West Field varsity lacrosse game. The moment quickly spread online and caught the attention of the PLL and the Utah Archers.

"It just kind of blew up after that, and now we're here," said Brady's mother, Christine Famuliner. "The PLL called us; earlier this week, they caught onto it, and now he's doing something that we'd never thought he would be able to do."

For Brady's family, the honor is especially meaningful because of his longtime support for the team.

"He has Archers jerseys. He has been to every single game they've played in the state of Utah," said his father, Conn Famuliner. "This is his team."

During Thursday's event at the Zions Bank Training Center in Herriman, Brady spent time with players and coaches, received team gear, and joined the team during its walk-through.

Utah Archers coach and general manager Chris Bates said players immediately connected with Brady.

"He's got a great personality," Bates said. "We're honored that he's going to be our honorary captain."

Saturday's game against the Denver Outlaws will air nationally on ESPN2 from Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.
