(KSL News) Economic woes are a contributing factor in the increase of Utah's homeless population.
New data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) shows Utah's homeless population increased by 16 percent to nearly 16,000 people.
Reasons for the increase include the economy, as well as substance abuse and domestic violence.
But there is some good news. The number of chronically homeless Utahns went down by 15 percent from last year due in part to new housing developments built specifically for those in need.
