Utah wants to attract more moviemakers to the state

Andrew Adams reporting Utah is looking to get big time into the movie business.

Today, Utah plays bit roles in big movies. For example, Captain jack was trapped on the Salt Flats in "Pirates of the Caribbean 3." But that was just a couple of scenes.

Entire major releases are usually shot elsewhere, in part because Utah doesn't offer the incentives. State leaders are hoping to change that.

"We want to create a mechanism that makes it so that we can be the premier filming destination in the United States," said Jason Murphy, director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development.

Perry says the solution is a tax credit: up to 15 percent of the cost of the total production. Right now, all the state can offer is $500,000 max per movie.
