Survivor of rollover wreck dies after being struck by car

SPANISH FORK, Utah (AP) -- A man who survived a rollover crash into Spanish Fork Canyon died after returning to the road and being struck by another car.

Frank R. Mell, of Spanish Fork, was in a car with four others when the driver lost control and it rolled about 75 feet down an embankment Friday evening. The group climbed back to the road and, just before 7 p.m., was hit by a car that lost control in the same area.

"The roads were wet, it was stormy, it was rainy," says Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Blaine Robbins. "In that area, speeds were too fast."

Mell and another person were airlifted in critical condition to area hospitals. Mell died Saturday morning. Another person was taken by ambulance to the hospital. The driver of the second car had minor injuries.
