Students cope with heat on first day of school

Just in time for the first day of school, a forecast high in the triple digits. We went to Indian Hills Middle School in Sandy to find out how the students are coping.

Every door is flung open to the breeze. There's no air conditioning, but it's honestly not bad with the breeze going through.

Still, mothers like Debbie Carlson are understandably worried. She became aware of the problem at Back to School Night last week.

"We were only there for an hour and a half. I can't imagine having to have children in there all day long," she said.

The Jordan District is encouraging children to dress lightly, especially at the schools without air conditioning. They're also allowing bottled water. A spokeswoman for the district says she can't ever remember a time when they had to cancel school for heat.
