State parks, national forests prepare for busy weekend

Utah state parks and national forests are gearing up for an extra busy weekend as more Utahns stay closer to home this Labor Day.

AAA says fewer Utahns will be traveling long distances this weekend. So Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest spokesperson Loyal Clark says they're getting ready to see big local crowds at the campgrounds.

"We are feeling the consequences of our visitors who are staying home because of high gas prices," she said.

Clark says they expect all their camp sites to fill up Friday evening.

"Which means everybody's going to try to pack into every possible open space that they can," she said.

Of course they want people to be smart: take care of campfires, don't leave food out, and watch the weather. It's supposed to get stormy this holiday.
