SALT LAKE CITY — A 19-year-old skier died Sunday from injuries sustained at Alta Ski Area at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Members of the Alta Ski Patrol provided life saving measures to the young man and he was later transfered by helicopter to a nearby hospital. However, the skier did not survive his injuries. According to the Alta Marshal’s Office, the skier collided with a tree near the Nina’s area of the resort, which is a challenging black diamond ski run suggested for experts only. No other skiers were involved in what officials call an accident. Officials said an investigation continues, as do Alta’s efforts to reach the man’s family.
