(KSL News) Leaders in the Utah Senate say they are not asking Sen. Chris Buttars to resign, and they're not pressuring him to not run for re-election in November.
Buttars unleashed a firestorm last week when he referred to a bill he opposed as a "black baby" and "a dark ugly thing." The NAACP has asked him to quit the Senate for what it calls a "racist, bigoted remark."
Senate officials say Buttars made a "poor choice of words in the heat of debate, carelessly, but not maliciously."
