Sandy's request for theater operator bids met with silence

SANDY, Utah (AP) -- Sandy's promising start toward bringing a Broadway-style theater to town may have hit a hitch.

The city has been locked in a battle with Salt Lake City over where to build the prospective theater. Sandy was off to an early start -- it had a site, a developer and interest from a high-profile operator.

But Thursday's deadline for bids to run the theater came and went without a nibble.

New York-based Nederlander Producing Company of America has said a Sandy theater looks like a good opportunity, but it did not submit a bid by deadline. Local presenter NewSpace Entertainment says it will not bid until a county cultural-facilities master plan is released this summer.

City officials say the door is still open for proposals.
