Robbers attack diamond broker

Marc Giauque reportingSandy police are hoping a jewelry robbery isn't the first in a new rash of similar crimes.

Police say four men wearing black hoodies and blue bandannas over their faces jumped a jewel broker as he was leaving a restaurant last night. The crooks stole the man's keys, opened his trunk, and took off with a briefcase full of $150,000 in diamonds.

"We are fairly certain that these people have pre-knowledge of what some of these brokers are doing, where they're going from their locations. From being hit so hard last year, it tells us this is somewhat of an inside job, if you will," said Sgt. Victor Quezada, spokesman for the Sandy Police Department.

Last year, there were about a half-dozen similar robberies around the valley.

Police say the suspects also slashed the victim's tires. Luckily, he was not seriously injured during the robbery.
